30 Years and Forward with GRC

Yunlang Xinju (云琅新居), Tianjin - constructed in 2008

As we prepare to launch a new series of GRC this year, we are reflecting on our 30 years of experience with GRC. Although GRC is known for its strength and durability, we still receive questions about its durability and longevity over time. In 2025, we revisit sites to review how our GRC stood the test of time.

A Recap of our GRC operation.

We specializes in the production of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GRC) products. Established in 1994, it is one of the earliest companies in China to adopt GRC production equipment imported from Europe and the United States.

We are a member of both the GRC International Association (GRCA) and the China GRC Association. The company has production bases in Beijing and Guangzhou, with plans to expand further. They use high-quality materials, including internationally patented CEM-FIL alkali-resistant glass fibers, to ensure their products meet international standards.

We provide a wide range of GRC products, including decorative panels and architectural elements, which are known for their quality, strength, and durability.

Revisiting in 2025.

Beijing Taifeng Huizhong Building (北京太丰惠中大廈), Beijing - Refurbished in 1995

Our inaugural GRC project: refurbishing a 14-storey office building, featuring GRC cladding on the façade. Each large panel is reinforced with integrated ribs for added structural strength. Since 1995, the cladding façade has withstood severe snowstorms and sandstorms, events considered once-in-a-century occurrences. Today, the façade remains intact, matching its status as a Grade A office building in a prime location.

Seminar and Site Visit

Fenghe New Garden (风荷新园), Tianjin - Constructed in 2003

For this project, all the cornices are crafted from GRC and installed around the perimeter of the 18 blocks of the 10-storey building. It's essential to ensure that no pieces fall, especially when installed at such a height.

Upon revisiting the property, we observed that the cornices remain fully intact with only minor hardline cracks. The expansion joints effectively prevent these cracks from extending further. In contrast, the structural walls and other decorative elements show signs of multiple repairs and missing pieces.

Wanhao International Apartments (万豪国际公寓), Beijing - Constructed in 2003

Most of the Greek and Roman decorative features were made of GRC including Pediment, Cornice, Columns and Blustrades. No cracks or damage were seen as we revisited the site 21 years later!

Qingzhi Garden (清芷园), Beijing - Constructed in 2007
The property consists of 12 mid-rise buildings, each ranging from 14 to 17 storeys. A prominent feature is a massive structure supported by 9-storey tall cladded Doric columns, topped with an arch. Additionally, all the cornices around the perimeter of the buildings are made of GRC are seen fully intact.

Yunlang New Residence (云琅新居), Tianjin - Constructed in 2008

The cornices, finials, and columns from the top floor to the ground floor were made of GRC. The biggest challenge was installing the large cornice pieces, which extended close to a meter, at high levels along the perimeter of the 12th floor of the three mixed-use buildings.

Upon revisiting the property, we observed that the cornices remain fully intact, with only the paint peeling off. The corner cornices, in particular, are still in pristine condition because they were manufactured as a single piece. However, according to our colleague who handled the project, the drip edges were add-on parts manufactured separately, contrary to our proposal to include them in the design. This has resulted in missing pieces today.

Going International.

National Wrestling Arena in Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳 - Constructed in 2018

The golden frieze wrapping around the arena, hovering above the main entrance features 3D tiles illustrating wrestling moves, crafted from GRC. This is the furthest project we have taken.

Office Building of Ministry of National Defense, Cambodia 🇰🇭 - Constructed in 2021

For this project, we supplied 8,000 square meters of high-durability GRC decorative panels to enhance the building's remarkable design. To complement the monolithic aesthetic, each panel and angled sunscreen are intentionally large in size. The lightweight properties of GRC were essential in achieving this design.

Sentosa, Singapore 🇸🇬 - Constructed in 2024

This is our most intricate project to date, involving the use of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) and the handling of complex 3D curved pieces.

The 3D curved landscaping pieces surrounding the escalator are crafted from GRC, designed to mimic the look of terrazzo. Each piece features a smooth profile and a semi-gloss finish, meticulously hand-polished at our production facility. They undergo rigorous strength and durability testing and are carefully assembled for inspection before being packed and shipped to Singapore for installation.
